AAFDA – Specialist and expert advocacy and peer support after fatal domestic abuse.
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a charity providing free, expert and specialist advocacy and peer support to loved ones bereaved by fatal domestic abuse.
When the time is right for the family or friend, we offer assistance with statutory inquiries, including Domestic Homicide Reviews, Mental Health Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Inquests and Independent Office of Police Complaints Inquiries.
Along the way we offer practical help with many other difficulties families and friends may encounter.
Through our work we help raise the status of families (including children and young people) so they are treated with respect and as key stakeholders in statutory review processes.
AAFDA’s free peer support and expert advocacy service is available across England and Wales. We listen to loved ones who have been bereaved by domestic homicide, or suicide/unexplained death following domestic abuse. We guide and advocate for them and enable them to address the myriad of practical and emotional issues they face. This can include meaningful engagement with statutory review processes whilst dealing with their grief.
The family (or friend) will receive tailored support from a dedicated advocate and we are also able to access the services of lawyers.
Our peer support service offers an opportunity for those bereaved to meet others who have experienced a similar loss. We hold weekly on-line peer support meetings and annual weekend retreats.
Families and friends can access our free service for advocacy or peer support or both.
